We welcome all the supporters of the world that are heading to South Africa! We are looking forward to these passionate fans who will bring rivalry, passion and excitement to our stadiums. We hope you will live the experience of African football culture.
Wear the fashion that is passion

A makaraba (decorated hard hat) in the colours of your nation will add to the style and wit of your supporters outfits.

The original Makarabas were sculptured from the miners’ hard hats in the early 1980s by rival soccer supporters, to display their loyalty to their club and to celebrate their passion for the beautiful game. Makarabas show a positive colourful, exciting, vibrant aspect of South Africa.

In 2004, Makoya Makaraba a small community based project in southern suburbs of Cape Town came into existence from very humble beginnings. The project create hand made Makarabas hard hat to individual client’s brief. The project's main objective is to provide work for men who previously stood on the side of the road. These men have learnt the skills of makaraba making from a skilled designer and artist covering: initial design, templates, cutting, trimming, figure painting, lettering. Each man has found his skills niche within the project. Over this period 6 men have developed their skills and have become our core creative team.

Models have paraded down the catwalk wearing makarabas during the Nokia Cape Town Fashion Week. With the incorporation of the makarabas in a fashion show we are seeing an evolution from soccer wear to “must wear”. A colourful vibrant positive aspect of South African soccer culture is being exposed to a broader audience. Makarabas can be worn as headgear by both men or women; displayed as works of art in homes, offices, boardrooms, pubs; used as a table centre piece; used as trophies or awards and for any other innovative idea you can think of. They are mobile bill boards for anyone wishing to promote a brand. They are also great souvenirs.
