Perfect picnics in the Cape - Picnic at Hartenberg Wine Estate - Part 3

November 23, 2017

Hartenberg lies in its own self-contained valley, with a pure water source flowing the entire length of the property into an untouched wetland system, making 65 of the farm's 170 hectares that will never be cultivated. This means that the Hartenberg Estate offer unparalleled opportunities for ornithologists and amateur hobbyist bird watchers to spot birds such as: Burchell's Coucal, African Fish Eagle, Spotted Eagle Owl, Jackal Buzzard, Cape Frankolin, Barn Owl and the Fork-Tailed Drongo. Also, you could spot Civet,Mongoose, Porcupine, Caracal and three species of Antelope, they take their nature conservation seriously here 😊

There is only need for one picnic and that is Eleanor’s Picnic stuffed with food to feed the soul, it consists of the following. Eleanor’s famous snoek paté, roast pepper humus, the best locally produced cheeses, Tiropita (a Greek style cheese pie), tasty salami and parma ham, Scotch egg and a Jar of salad filled with chickpeas, roasted tomato and spinach salad. Accompanied by baby vegetable crudités with a feta & herb dip, delicious baked breads and of course a home-made salted caramel brownie.

Oh, they produce wine too. And it’s really, really good (hint hint, get yourself some Alchemy).
