These guys do some great Southern Indian food in the tapas style, designed to be shared and enjoyed in company.
Sundoo is the creation of serial restaurateur and chef, Seelan Sundoo. The flavours are deeply founded in Kerala, India “The Land of Spices” a center for the trade in chili, cardamom, cloves and all manner of spices.
It is a tiny/intimate venue, seating forty in New York, deli-style booths, come early, they don’t do reservations here either (but they cater for 2 dinner sittings, the first at 18:30 and the second at 20:30).
From the clay oven, have the Cutta Kingklip, slow roasted with ginger, coriander and masala spice.
Then, in terms of curry, we highly recommend the Anjuna prawn curry, with St.Lucia south coast school prawns, cooked in tomato, onion, fresh curry leaves, coriander, garlic, ginger and chili. A touch on the spicy side, but just right!
Any spiciness can be easily remedied by a fantastically refreshing cucumber mint cooler, it’s perfect!
