If you want an express option, grab a gourmet baguette, such as the pulled pork belly with gherkins and mustard, or the simply salmon with smoked salmon, avocado, cucumber, black sesame seeds and beetroot aioli, delish!
Grab your goodies and head off to Mont Rochelle Nature Reserve to enjoy the tranquility within the UNESCO Cape Winelands Biosphere Reserve. It’s a place of such beauty, you won’t have to stray far from your parked car to find a spot to unfurl your blanket and devour your spoils :-)
Chardonnay Deli is situated in Constantia, in the lap of vineyards and rolling mountain slopes, surrounded by luscious green in all directions.
While they may call themselves “an upmarket farm stall”, they really are so much more. Created by an ensemble of catering chefs they pride themselves on a variety of healthy and homemade products. They stock everything from basic grocery items to local farm produce, handmade home and lifestyle products and a lot more.
Spoil yourself on any of the amazing bakery goods including rustic cakes and breads, pies, quiches, pastries and cookies, and have it wrapped to go.
The Constantia/Tokai area is rife with beautiful wine estates and forests so you will not struggle to find a beautiful spot to roll out a blanket and tuck in. You may want to take a drive up Price Drive, the view is phenomenal.
Hartenberg lies in its own self-contained valley, with a pure water source flowing the entire length of the property into an untouched wetland system, making 65 of the farm's 170 hectares that will never be cultivated. This means that the Hartenberg Estate offer unparalleled opportunities for ornithologists and amateur hobbyist bird watchers to spot birds such as: Burchell's Coucal, African Fish Eagle, Spotted Eagle Owl, Jackal Buzzard, Cape Frankolin, Barn Owl and the Fork-Tailed Drongo. Also, you could spot Civet,Mongoose, Porcupine, Caracal and three species of Antelope, they take their nature conservation seriously here 😊
There is only need for one picnic and that is Eleanor’s Picnic stuffed with food to feed the soul, it consists of the following. Eleanor’s famous snoek paté, roast pepper humus, the best locally produced cheeses, Tiropita (a Greek style cheese pie), tasty salami and parma ham, Scotch egg and a Jar of salad filled with chickpeas, roasted tomato and spinach salad. Accompanied by baby vegetable crudités with a feta & herb dip, delicious baked breads and of course a home-made salted caramel brownie.
Oh, they produce wine too. And it’s really, really good (hint hint, get yourself some Alchemy).
Allée Bleue Wine Estate is a well-established wedding and function venue, and part of the reason for this is the unmistakably beautiful surroundings created by the combination of ancient oak trees and the beautiful Drakenstein Mountains.
The kids will be well entertained by the fresh air and roaming space, also, the jungle gym, jumping castle and sandpit should keep them busy.
The Standard Picnic basket contains a delicious Beef Stroganoff pie with a creamy mushroom and pepper sauce and a farm-grown micro-herb salad served with an Allée Bleue Cabernet/Merlot wine reduction dressing and Pecorino cheese shavings.
The best bit of the basket is the Allée Bleue farm style cheese platter which consists of a selection of local cheeses and cold meats, freshly-baked bread and fruited dry melba toast served with home-made smoked olive tapenade, aniseed onion marmalade, chilli tomato chutney and basil pesto.
As a bonus, you will receive farm grown olives and creamy yoghurt balls.
