welcome to
Mpumalanga translated to mean 'land of the rising sun', Mpumalanga offers some of the most scenic landscapes South Africa has to offer. Blessed with sub-tropical weather across most of the province, Mpumalanga remains one of the most popular tourism destinations in the country. On the border of both Gauteng and Mozambique, Mpumalanga offers an escape from bustling realities and immerses one into nature. What’s more, there’s spectacular wildlife to be viewed, secluded mountains to retreat to, and one of the most vibrant African cultures to experience. Mpumalanga accommodation offers something for everyone’s needs: from 6-star luxury to backpacking options and everything in-between!

Unlike Gauteng and the Western Cape, Mpumalanga is not an uber-developed province with skyscrapers – instead, it’s full of green valleys, endowed with beautiful forests, and promises a sanctuary of calm and tranquility. If you’re looking to connect with nature and experience wildlife in their element, this is the province for you. To add spice to its eco-discovery flavour, each little town has something special to offer: White River is a haven for artists and crafters selling their wares, Pilgrim’s Rest allows you to step back into time, Graskop is a hotspot in terms of food and art, while Hazyview is a must for all adventure lovers.

Top attractions not to be missed include the Sudwala Caves near Nelspruit, the Blyderivierspoort Nature Reserve, African Silk farm near Graskop, the Botshabelo Historical Village, God’s Window, and the Mac Mac Falls & Pools. Mpumalanga is Big Game Country and no visit to the province is complete without a stopover at the world renowned Kruger National Park. Across nearly two million hectares, the Kruger National Park offers an unrivalled wildlife experience boasting elephant, lion, leopard, rhino and buffalo amongst other animals. There are various private game reserves within the Kruger National Park, including the Sabi-Sand Game Reserve, Idube Safari Lodge, Timbavati King’s Camp, and Sir Richard Branson’s famous Ulusaba Game Lodge. Other animal sanctuaries include the Moholoholo Rehabilitation Centre, the Elephant Sanctuary, and the Jane Goodall Institute's Chimpanzee Eden.

If you love outdoor activities and adventure sports, head off to the Hazyview area. Try your hand at quad biking, horse riding, white water rafting, tubing, and sand boarding. For the brave at heart, give the exhilarating skyway trails in Sabie a go, where you glide across Africa's longest aerial cable trail over a forested valley. Sabie also has sheer vertical cliffs which are perfect for rock climbing and abseiling and hot air balloon facilities that offer amazing views of the area. In Graskop, get an adrenaline rush by trying their famous gorge swinging & high wire – at 68 metres down Graskop Gorge, it’s quite something!

If you prefer something a little more restful, there are loads of hiking and bird watching trails available throughout the province. Casterbridge Farm in White River and Perry’s Bridge in Hazyview offer a unique country shopping opportunity, while local spas such as Cybele Forest Spa and Summerfields River Lodge & Spa, both in Hazyview, have fabulous pampering packages.
